Searched phrases are highlighted so customers can instantly recognize product relevance
Instant visibility of the match
Key tags: UX, Highlighting, Visibility, Scanning
In search results and in the autocomplete, we automatically highlight searched phrases with a colored background or bold font, so the customer immediately sees why a given product was shown.
Where highlighting takes place
Product names
The searched word in the name is highlighted with a yellow background or bold font.
Autocomplete
In the autocomplete, matches are highlighted for fast orientation in the suggestions.
Short descriptions
If the match is in the description, we display the relevant snippet with highlighting.
Categories
In category suggestions, matches to the query are also highlighted.
Product parameters
When a search is performed by parameter (color, size), it appears highlighted.
Synonyms and variants
Even when the customer searches for a synonym, the actual expression in the product is highlighted.
Why highlighting matters
Eye-tracking studies show that users often just "scan" search results visually instead of reading the full names. Highlighted phrases help them:
- Quickly identify relevant products
- Understand why a given product was shown
- Decide whether to click on the product card
- Confirm they have found the right product
Without highlighting, the customer has to read full product names, which slows down the search and lowers the click-through rate on relevant products.
Highlighting example
Search: "blue hoodie"

Search: "laptop"
Laptop Dell XPS 15 - powerful machine for work
